State, local and tribal governments must spend CARES Act dollars by December 30 or lose that funding.

Much of that funding, aimed to relieve the impact of the pandemic, hasn’t been spent. “The significant amount of funds left unspent suggests a substantial risk that money will be returned to the federal government,” warns the New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute.

One category eligible for funding entails “expenses to improve telework capabilities for public employees to enable compliance with COVID-19 public health precautions.”

Economical solutions that meet that criteria include integrating existing technologies to enable mass notifications, remote communications, security monitoring and automations. Because integrations leverage technology systems an organization already owns, local government leaders can increase remote communications and emergency response capabilities dramatically, yet affordably.
